Learning Highlights from Last Week - October 10-14

Oki,
It was a fabulous learning week last week.  We are really enjoying uncovering the stories of the land as you saw from our community hike.  Here are some more photos that show powerful learning that is happening in room 4A.  We have writing samples, art with different types of paper (connected to nature and stories, as well as science and waste in our world).  Students used parchment paper and paper chalk for the first leaf.  Then, they used newspaper and oil pastels for the second leaf.  We certainly have a room full of artists! In art in grade four, our focus is to create realistic drawing.  Have a look at the remarkable work done by our students.  They showed effort, and persistence to represent the Fall leaves.  Do you think they captured decomposition and transformation?

Student stories depicting the leaf's perspective.  What is the story of your leaf?  Notice the recycle of science vocabulary and the use of personificaiton (a technique where the author gives a non human object a human quality).

There are some powerful metaphors in this one!
