What a wonderful field trip we had today!!! There is nothing better than learning from nature. Darcy Turning Robe's stories along with his amazing singing voice really transformed our thinking about the history of his culture and Nose Hill Park. We walked 5.6 km up and across the hill, it was a workout through the snow, but everybody persevered.
Here are some photos for you to enjoy the experience too:
On our way up the hill, first sighting of the infamous prairie crocus. Ask your child to tell you the story of this amazingly adaptive flower. Walking across the park, looking for plants and evidence of wildlife.
Looks like a lupine is popping up here.
Walking through the remaining snow.
We have arrived: Kieran delivers the acknowledgement of the land. Thanks Kieran for your amazing reading skills!
Darcy begins sharing his stories. This is the spot where two scouts would watch over the land to protect the people in the camps down below near Fort Calgary. They would work together, one sleeping the other awake and then trade off. As you know you can see for a very great distance from this vantage point.
During our walk about, we discovered another stone structure. A mindful, meditative labyrinth. I wonder who created this? Any thoughts?
The altar is at the center of the wheel, a person can leave and offering here and ask for help and healing or insight.
