Learning Highlights from Room 4A - Sept 17-20

In humanities we have been learning about the symbols and regions of Alberta.  Here are some photos of our realistic representations of the symbols.  We used guided drawing and looked carefully at images to get the details correct, this includes shape, color, texture and dimension.  Students were very proud to use the growth mindset to persist, create, make mistakes and succeed at representing the Wild Rose and the Bull Frog.  We have begun looking at the grasslands region.  Here are some links to a videos that students watched to expand their background knowledge.  Alberta's grasslands
The Grasslands Project - No Other Place

Here we are creating the zentangle leaves for our newspaper tree.  The tree represents growth - it connects to recycling and upcycling (Waste in Our World - Science)  it also connects to developing a growth mindset.  We are excited to discover how our story will develop in room 119 - grade four is all about the stories that place and land can tell us.  Watch this space for our growing stories.

Here is our Metacognition crown -- students who demonstrate big thinking get to wear the crown (or put it on their desk).  It usually zips around the room as our neurons spark each others and one person's thinking sparks the thinking of many others (global mind).
