Dear Parents,
We are looking for 2 or 3 volunteers for our upcoming Grade 4 - Nose Hill Field Trip on April 29th, 2019. We are going to have the privilege of working with Blackfoot knowledge keeper, Darcy Turning Robe. He will be sharing with us stories about the land (plants and animals) as well as the medicine wheel. The field trip will be from 8:30-1:30 and we will be spending the day on Nose Hill Park. Please email me if you are able to join us for this wonderful learning experience. kehargreaves@cbe.ab.ca
This field trip is connected to our Social Studies and Science curriculum and will continue our exploration of oral story telling and how knowledge is found everywhere.
On this trip students will:
- recognize how stories of people and events provide multiple perspectives on past and present events
- recognize oral traditions, narratives and stories as valid sources of knowledge about the land, culture and history
- recognize the presence and influence of diverse Aboriginal peoples as inherent to Alberta's culture and identity
demonstrate respect for places and objects of historical significance
Here is a link for you to learn more about the medicine wheel and this important historical site.
